October 25, 2014 by

As his name suggests, Carlos Lumiere is a true master of lighting. He combines his passion for composition and architecture with rich and colourful design to give his photographs an edgy and unique style that is contemporary, yet timeless.

Over the last decade, Carlos has developed a unique portfolio.

Considering the level of his talent and the long list of clients he has had (Christian Lacroix, Vivenne Westwood, Dunhill, Hackett, Harrods, L’Oréal, etc…) we wanted to learn a bit more about this great photographer.

0001-overview

Carlos was born in Spain and developed an interest in photography from an early age, influenced by his father.

1) When did you start with your business, how long have you been in the industry?

I have been a photographer for more than 25 years, and I was influenced by my father who is also a photographer.

2) How did you start doing what you do, what inspired you?

From an early age I always knew that fashion and beauty was my passion and I was inspired by perfume commercials such as “Chanel No. 5” and “Yves St. Laurent Jazz”.

3) What part of your work do you enjoy the most?

Casting and choosing locations and finding the perfect lighting for each image.

4) What is the most interesting thing that has happened to you in your professional career, or who were you most excited to work with?

I have lived in Miami, Paris, New York, Hamburg, Munich, Milan and since 2000, in London. Each city has provided me with hundreds of stories so it is difficult to choose. I had the good fortune of working with Isabella Blow for two weeks in Kuwait.

5) What do you consider to be your biggest professional achievement?

Having been able to live from what I enjoy the most, which is travelling the world, and capturing images that make people dream.

6) What resources do you use to promote your work?

Production Paradise has been my best tool so far. (Editor’s note: don’t miss Carlos’ latest Showcase London feature)

7) What have you found most useful about being a Production Paradise member?

As a Creative I don’t really promote myself enough, so being a member of Production Paradise has helped me to showcase my work internationally and brought me enquiries and jobs worldwide.

8) Have you made any interesting connections through Production Paradise?

My latest achievement through Production Paradise was being chosen as official photographer for the Royal Enclosure for Royal Ascot for Longines.

9) Any interesting anecdotes that happened to you recently?

Jumping on a chair in front of all the other photographers present in order to take the right angle for a photo of the Prince of Wales in Ascot. All the other photographers hated me but I managed to get the best shot.

10) What do you think is the future of this industry?

Photography and magazines will never die, as with one image you can say a thousand words, and it will always be a sensation to touch a magazine.
