Roxane Mercerat knew from a very young age that she would go on to lead an artistic life. Her studies in fashion started when she was only 14 years old and since then she has never looked back. Roxane recently made the transition from Fashion Designer to Fashion Stylist and we at Production Paradise are convinced that this talented new discovery has everything it takes to become one of the most wanted stylists in Barcelona and internationally. Our team was eager to interview this young Fashion Stylist and find out more about what makes her tick.
Roxane Mercerat: My childhood was spent between France and Switzerland, because we used to live right at the border, near Geneva. I have Italian roots also very present, since I have half of my family living near Venice. What I learned from those who love me, is to not have fears and restrict yourself, and because of that when I was 18 years old I flew to Madrid. There I started my brand and worked with some great names in the fashion industry. After 4 years I moved to Barcelona, for love. The love ended and I ended up losing my heart to the city.
Production Paradise: What is fashion to you, and when did you start to feel the interest in working within it?
Roxane Mercerat: Fashion is expression and passion! Fashion is about mixing stories with actual visions. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a part of the Art world. When I was just 14 years old I was accepted into the Decorative Art School of Geneva and there I studied, for 3 years on how to become a Fashion Designer and a Tailor.
Production Paradise: You recently debuted as a Fashion Stylist. Was this shift from Fashion Designer to Fashion Stylist planned, or something that gradually evolved?
Roxane Mercerat: Fashion Stylism has been in evidence after having my brand for some years. I created limited edition clothing and accessories, personally making all the patterns, sewing, designing, mediatizing…but maybe I did too much, and that tired me out! I also did many shootings for my personal campaigns and loved to do it, and that is how I started as a Fashion Stylist.
Production Paradise: Fashion Designer and Stylist are two distinct professions, but there are many cases of well-known creative people that do both jobs. How do you see your future?
Roxane Mercerat: To know about Fashion Design helps me understand clothes, shapes, texture, and that is essential. I enjoy much more my daily life as a Fashion Stylist and I see that this evolution is very positive. I also don’t want to forget the handcraft part and I plan to produce some limited editions, but that will happen when I feel inspired and have enough time!
Production Paradise: Your work is outstanding and ranges from classic to contemporary. How would you define your approach and vision for any photographer reading this who wants to work with you?
Roxane Mercerat: The key is to adapt knowing what you are made of and being curious, searching in the daily feed to see what you can put inside your personal inspiration store. I have and love classic bases, as I studied tailoring, and I try to be conscious of the Fashion Industry and the world around me. I also love the past, handcrafts, textures, history, and all things that tell you stories. Likewise, I have a vintage and luxury second hand boutique with my mother in Geneva, and that is a big influence too.
Production Paradise: What are your hopes for the future and your biggest dreams in the fashion industry?
Roxane Mercerat: My goal is to live from with what I throw my hands on, seeing the evolution of the know-how with immense passion.
Production Paradise: Until now which campaigns have been the most rewarding and the most challenging?
Roxane Mercerat: I’m in this challenge right now and I cannot tell you more!
