Fashion and Beauty Photographer Henryk, grew up in Brisbane, Australia and started out studying graphic design. His first job was art directing at Lorna Jane, but it didn’t take long for him to start shooting their campaigns and realising that photography was a stronger passion than design. Henryk followed that passion and after a 3 year transition and being completely set-taught, he later moved to Sydney with his now wife Amelia Axton (who is a hair & makeup artist). Campaigns started getting larger & larger from Australia, Dubai, U.S, India & Paris and Henryk’s body of work to-date is outstanding.
Production Paradise: Your fashion and beauty photography is stunning; what is it that draws you to this type of photography?
Henryk: I love making emotive images and making things look beautiful. I love searching for & moulding an image into existence too- it’s sometimes a great challenge getting that single frame that makes all the difference.
Production Paradise: From where do you get the inspiration to create such beautiful work?
Henryk: Inspiration really just comes into play from everything I see and do, and then on the day I’m shooting it just happens- I search and create what I feel is aesthetically beautiful or interesting while I’m shooting. In a way it’s a sub-conscious inspiration, or I find something that on the day feels like the most important element- then I chase that. Sometimes it’s clothes, sometimes hair etc.
Production Paradise: When and how did you discover your photography talent?
Henryk: I think I was 21, and I got the opportunity to shoot a Men’s Health cover in Brisbane for Sydney MH team. It went through the approval process in NY and landed on the cover- and when I saw it I realised that really anything was possible career-wise
Production Paradise: Which photographers influenced you, and how did they influence your thinking, photographing, and career path?
Henryk: The main influence along the way was Steven Meisel, I really love his work and his consistency, and his strong personal style always comes out.
Production Paradise: What have you found most useful being a Production Paradise member?
Henryk: It’s really great to see who’s out there when you’re flying into a new city looking for a team.
Production Paradise: What are you working on right now? Are there any clients you would like to work with in the future?
Henryk: I just finished a campaign for a large Indian clothing company shot in Australia- that was a fun way to start 2015. I also just shot for 2 days on Cockatoo Island for Rebel which was great too. I’d love more overseas work as I really love immersing myself into new cultures and cities.Travel also fuels my creativity.
