Responsible for the overall visual look of an internal game development project and associated product line, and supervising the efforts of internal artists to achieve the highest artistic quality. The Art Director sets the vision to ensure quality and consistency from internal concept artists, character artists, environment artists, animators, cinematics, FX artists, and UI designers with responsibility to deliver the most visually compelling games in service of the overall game experience. They are responsible for establishing the high-bar and feel of the product, and driving, inspiring, motivating and raising skills across the art team. He or she will be involved with art schedules, milestone deliverables, and setting standard procedures and expectations.

Partners closely with the Creative Director, Producers, Technical Directors and other team Leads to address all issues related to their designated artistic function, including: defining the stylistic vision, establishing and maintaining aesthetic standards, influencing the technical direction of the project to best support the artistic goals, and contributing accurate scheduling information to production department.
Directs tasks across multiple milestones / duration of project. Works on longer range projects and planning. Approves the planning of project milestones with the Production Manager. Can balance tasks and direction across multiple SKU's, project cycles and across a franchise.
An advocate and director of the Art department and processes within franchise - serving as a key contact at a project lead level and between teams. Represents and communicates department's successes, challenges, and point of view to project stakeholders, the Executive team and across the studio.
Partners with Creative Director to establish, interpret, and support the game design. Creates the visual language that directly enhances the core design and offers artistic solutions to design problems.
Accountable for minimizing art related risks by proactively identifying issues, reviewing mitigating factors and presenting solutions on project / franchise. Shares knowledge and implements best practices to lower overall risks and drive consistency across the team, studios and with outsource partners. Involved in creating workgroup structures and establishing team efficiencies throughout production.
Directs, manages and inspires highly creative individuals. Partners with the Lead Producer to build and manage a high-performing team, outline succession planning, manage risk and identify growth opportunities across art disciplines.
Partners with the Lead Producer to manage performance, write, and deliver performance reviews for Supervising, Principal and / or Lead level artists. Helps set and direct quarterly goals. Mentors across all levels of the Art team and team members outside discipline on quality, process and best practice with direct correlation to project goals.
Pre-Screens interviewees; key to hiring decisions. Partners with Recruiting to proactively identify hiring pipeline for current and future staffing needs. Actively pursues new recruits through evangelizing the studio / company at internal events and through trusted relationships with universities and schools.


Minimum of 6 years of industry experience with a successful track record as an Art Director.
A portfolio demonstrating outstanding work in game visual development.
An ability to work independently and be self-directing.
Responsive to deadlines and work well under pressure.
Prior experience building, leading and mentoring highly creative teams.
Excellent team communication and motivational skills.
Good understanding of 3D computer graphics, gaming platforms and industry trends.
A passion for gaming.
Additional Art Direction experience in film, animation or other related industries a bonus.
BFA preferred.
