The Newsweek/The Daily Beast Company, one of the most highly regarded news organizations today, with 10 mm monthly visitors, seeks a dynamic creative design director to lead design of its digital experiences across web and mobile platforms.

The ideal candidate has led design for a major content website, managed teams, and has a proven track record of executing forward-thinking and sophisticated digital experiences that balance function and form. Must possess expertise in user experience, interaction design, and information architecture; and have a passion for digital trends. Candidates must be collaborative leaders and comfortable in a solutions-oriented fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Direct and oversee product design for all web site and mobile projects, from conceptualization to execution
Understand product goals and think creatively to conceptualize innovative user experiences that meet product goals
Ensure timely turn-around and successful completion according to project timelines
Collaborate with editorial, technology and product managers to shape ideas and solutions
Oversee the work of the design team, including staff, freelance, and agency resources, design practice and processes, providing creative, conceptual and art direction on all digital fronts
Demonstrate high quality standards, attention to detail and adherence to company processes and best practices


Qualifications (Required):

8+ years interaction design and art direction experience including visual design and interface design
Experience with news and content-based websites
BFA/BS/BA Graphic Design, Art, Multimedia or closely related field
Strong skills in Adobe CS including Flash, Photoshop, After Effect and Illustrator
Ability to translate business goals and functional requirements into compelling design solutions
Ability to work independently, multi-task and to incorporate feedback
Excellent communication and organizational skills and attention to detail
Working knowledge of HTML/CSS, and its application to web design
Working knowledge of web standards, usability, SEO, and best practices
Knowledge of HTML5, JavaScript and AC3 a plus.
