Colorado State University seeks a creative design professional to serve as Graphic Designer for University communications in an internal marketing and communications team.

This position will be responsible for developing innovative design solutions while working within a group of creative professionals in a team environment. The successful candidate will exhibit strong contemporary design skills and possess experience in a variety of visual communications mediums. The position functions as creative contributor to various teams and individuals in a collaborative office environment. The candidate should show initiative and be able to take direction.

This position is in the Office of Creative Services, a department within the Division External Relations. The department is responsible for the management of communications projects including coordination, graphic design, and photography for Colorado State University’s colleges, divisions, departments, and units, while serving an integral role in the development and execution of the University’s strategic marketing, graphic standards/branding and communications initiatives. This position will report to the Creative Director.


Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to: creative design; branding initiatives; assisting design team; editing of digital and offset printing designs and files; and design and layout of other communications mediums (banners, signage, advertisements) for various colleges, divisions, and departments.

Work directly with the creative director, designers, project managers, colleges, divisions, and departments to implement a consistent look, tone and feel for all communications efforts that leverage institutional brand standards and guidelines – in all media platforms.

Collaborate with the communications teams to plan, develop, implement, and manage marketing and communications plans and initiatives for the colleges, divisions, departments and units that address and meet University strategic goals and objectives (advancement, funding, recruitment, academics, research, and environment).

Daily responsibilities include project management. These responsibilities will be cost estimating, developing timelines, and working directly with various vendors to produce a wider variety of finished products including print.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in graphic design, communications, or related field.

Portfolio showing creative, contemporary design for variety of print and digital mediums.

Minimum of 3 and maximum of 7 years of professional design experience working in a collaborative team environment such as an ad agency or design firm.

Demonstrated graphic design skills in a variety of mediums including icons, info graphics, and illustration as shown through portfolio.

Preferred qualifications

Experience working with established and evolving brands and graphic standards.

Experience working on collaborative projects that include print, web/electronic media, photography, video, and social media campaigns.

Demonstrated skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

Rank, Salary, and Benefits:

This is a full-time administrative professional position. Starting salary is $40,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position also has a full benefits package including 24 days of annual leave and 15 sick leave days per year, enrollment in group health, life and accident insurance, retirement plan options, work injury benefits, disability insurance, and additional opportunities such as free employee study privilege credits.
