Reporting directly to the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications, the Visual and Digital Media Design Specialist is part of an overall team that supports the university’s marketing, communications, and branding efforts throughout its campuses in Brooklyn, Brookville, N.Y. (LIU Post), and online. The Visual and Digital Media Design Specialist will drive consistency, efficiency, and quality on external marketing efforts across the university.



Principal Responsibilities:

Manage specific design & communication projects to elevate the LIU brand and improve advertising relative to strategic institutional goals.

Direct and coordinate photo and video project shoots, including photographing university employees, students, activities and events relating to the university.
Timelines - set up and maintain creative and print timelines, track and communicate development progress. Work with Marketing & Communications staff and clients in advance to establish project deadlines, including needs, responsibilities, steps, and deliverables.
Design and update visual and digital communications and marketing material including, but not limited to, advertising materials, infographics, brochures, signage, direct mail, promotional products and digital graphics.
Provide design support for presentations and flyers in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Improve and enforce marketing graphic standards and styles for consistency, quality, and brand assurance purposes.
Reviews and studies latest design trends to keep work product updated.
Take initiative to propose ideas and solutions to make improvements.
Work with outside vendors as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Recommends suitable illustrations, photography, video and/or sound to effectuate creative solutions that address project objectives and are visually appealing.



Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in graphic or communication design. A minimum of two-years of print and digital design experience required. Experience working in higher education or an advertising agency is desired. Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite on a Mac platform, particularly with InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Working knowledge of modern web development practices (HTML, CSS) as well as content management systems and CRMs. Skills and interest in photography is a plus. Knowledge of video camera operation and video editing with software such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere a plus. Willingness to take direction to successfully bring projects to completion. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects. Collaborate with creative team to ensure integration of print and web communications. Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), and organizational skills to effectively communicate design ideas. Prioritize multiple projects and deliver high-quality designs on-time under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated evidence of ability to develop materials and execute campaign in print and electronic media. Ability to translate established design concepts/themes into finished pieces. The successful candidate will possess strong contemporary design skills and experience in a broad variety of visual communications mediums.



Special Information: This position operates in an office setting, Monday through Friday; however, occasional evening and weekend hours required.
