Welcome to the 07/07 edition of Showcase London, a bumper edition displaying the talents of the best visual media companies hard at work in one of the world's hottest production cities.

London is never short of things to do, and this summer is no exception. Two events of note are:

    • London Fashion Week, 15-20 September, registration and application process is now underway.

See our event, food and night sections below for more information about what's on in London.

Our selected photo for this edition is by Diver and Aguilar and a shot from Spanish AKA Damm beer campaign. They, along with many other production professionals and companies, are listed in Production Paradise's London Directory.

The agency continues to clock up commissions from London's major agencies.

John Mac is into cosmetics - photographically speaking - and has some strong new images here and at the agency's website. He has also shot work for the remodelled famous 'bubblecar' Fiat 500 in Turin - the first UK photographer Fiat have used for fifteen years to launch a new car.

Steve Hoskins has launched the agency's digital media service after notching up commissions from Dare, Joshua Interactive - McAfee, The Post Office, Pedigree - and for Lexus. Check out the latest at his brand new website, which also includes a raft of personal projects showing the breadth of his work.

    Process   London photo agents

Process is currently showcasing its talent at the New Rose Pub on the Essex Road London - we definitely recommend a visit.

Once again, Rainer Elstermanns' work has been well received. The exhibition features eight of Rainer's enigmatic and startling portrayals of classic old Masters. He is currently here in London meeting with art buyers and creatives after a busy time in Berlin shooting for ad agencies and editorial clients.

Process has recently taken on international photographer Tim Morris. Predominantly shooting on location, Tim's work is a colourful, observational often humorous and graphic look at reality.

Tim has shot recent campaigns for Grey, JWT, WCRS, RKY&R, TBWA, Leo Burnett to name a few and editorial for the likes of Vogue, Independent, and the Guardian here in the UK. Stateside, Tim has shot for Hill Holiday, Ogilvy, Chiat Day, TBWA/Los Angeles, Arnold, Sawyer Miller, PM, Men's Health and Men's Fitness.

Carolyn Trayler Agency   London photo agents

"Lions... and tigers... and bears!" Actually, there were only tigers on Stuart Hall's recent global shoot for Ecco Shoes through Joshua. Though they were more than enough for the Trayler girls, who had not banked on their roar being quite so loud! Coming soon to a billboard near you...

Also out soon is a rather slick night time cityscape VW ad, again shot by Stuart Hall. He had to shoot right alongside a surprise fireworks display for a Canary Wharf houseboat party. We hear he even played along with the producer's attempts to convince him it was in his honour!

Two new additions to the CTA stable:

    • Jasper White who specialises in modern reportage that is colourful and urban.
    • Peter Lippmann whose still life is feminine, ethereal... extravagant even.

    Stephen Kearney   London advertising photographers

Photographer Stephen Kearney focuses on fashion and advertising, regularly working on projects across the UK and Europe.

His newly re-designed website and portfolio include plenty of new fashion shots, where the hallmarks of his work can be clearly seen: colour, lighting and particular attention to how his models pose, with striking outlines and compositions.

Recent major projects include for Prudential, Standard Life and Scottish Opera.

Stephen tells us he is inspired by two of his other passions: music - in his spare time, he drums in a Jazz-Funk band; and the landscapes of the Western Isles of Scotland, where his family hail from. He says, "I am planning a fashion shoot on the Island of Barra this summer as the light there is incredible. It might be tricky though, as the tide has to be out because the tiny plane has to land on the beach!"

    AOP Gallery   London photo events

The Association of Photographers presents the completed AOP Bursary 2006 winning project by photographer Spencer Murphy, 'Wastelands'. Reminiscent of childhood nuances discovered whilst exploring forbidden grounds, Murphy retraces his steps, engaging with his nomadic childhood sensations. The resulting images of waste sites in the UK take on an otherworldly quality, blending traditional notions of landscape with the aesthetic wasteland of modern man. The exhibition runs from 17 - 26 July 2007 at The AOP Gallery, London EC2.

For everybody with a love of photography, the AOPOPEN exhibition will launch the very best images online from 1 August, giving members of the public a chance to vote for their favourite image of 2007. It is one of the only major photographic competitions accessible to everyone: vivid, eclectic and full of imagination, it pushes the boundaries of contemporary photography through an exploration of its power and diversity.

The AOP Open exhibition will be held at the AOP Gallery, from 23 August to 26 September 2007. Winners will be announced at a prize giving on 24 August. Attendance is strictly by invitation only. To request an invitation, send an email to gallery@aophoto.co.uk.

The Photographer's Gallery   London photo events

Keith Arnatt: I'm a Real Photographer: This exhibition celebrates the photographs of Keith Arnatt, whose artistic achievements have for too long been overlooked. Focusing on work from 1972 - 2002 it includes both well known and forgotten pieces. Arnatt's lightness of touch and ability to transform the commonplace permeates his work.

Chris Coekin: The Hitcher. Like a latter-day beatnik, Chris Coekin (b. 1967) has been hitchhiking around the UK off and on for the past six years. Using a disposable camera to produce images as unpredictable as his journey - and a medium format camera for his portraits - Coekin has captured his adventures, the landscapes and the people he has encountered.

In Focus: Marysa Dowling, The Movement of an Object. The Movement of an Object links a group of strangers to each other through their relation to a single, banal object - a blue plastic bag. Marysa Dowling's project shows the movement of an object as it traverses London and is recycled by thirty individuals aged two to seventy-seven.

All these three exhibitions run from 29 May to 2 September.

    Chez Bruce   London restaurants

Bruce Poole set up Chez Bruce Restaurant in February 1995 with his business partner Nigel Platts-Martin.

He says, "From the very outset, it was my intention to serve the very best food but in a relaxed, informal yet thoroughly professionally run environment."

Over the years, the restaurant has won many prestigious awards, and is considered by many to be the best in London.

The food is based on classical and regional French cooking along with Mediterranean flavours from Spain and Italy and other European influences - old-fashioned braises and daubes alongside delicious offal preparations and lighter, simply grilled fish and meat alternatives on the menu. The desserts are described as "simply plated but immaculately prepared".

Mathew Fort, of the UK's Guardian: "It's a simple enough question: where do you go to eat where you know you won't ever be disappointed? Everyone I asked recently replied, without exception, Chez Bruce".

Positively 4th Street   London bars and nightclubs

Five minutes away from Warren Street tube station, Positively 4th Street takes you back to New York and the old prohibition days of 1930s America. We like the stylish and unusual mix of art deco mixed with Japanese culture.

Punkawella fans, 35ft-long art deco bar, Japanese bar stools, red leather banquettes and mushroom puff stools, a backdrop of deco-style mirrors and windows this is an unpretentious yet classy place.

It has become a popular destination place for North Londoners either going into or coming out of the West End as it is on the main route.

It acts as the perfect place for the overspill of the new and up and coming NoHo area just slightly off the beaten track and is used for leaving parties, wrap parties, record launches or after-show parties.

It is available for exclusive hire and has recently hosted parties for Travis, Damon Albarn, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Rufus Sewell, Neneh Cherry and Sony Corporation amongst others.
