Welcome to SHOWCASE NEW YORK - brought to you by Production Paradise.

New York City is famous for its creativity, innovation and big ideas. And few concepts have been expressed quite as creatively, innovatively and large as The Gates art installation. Commissioned by the City's Mayor and created by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, it consisted of 7,503 gates, 16 feet (4.87 m) tall by up to 18 feet (5.48 m) wide along 23 miles (37 km) of walkways through the Park. Free-hanging saffron colored fabric panels, suspended from the horizontal top part of the gates could be seen from far away through the leafless branches of the trees. The work of art remained for 16 days, and were removed this past weekend.

NYC is a great city for visual media production and here we showcase
some of the latest and best projects by New York companies and
professionals. And don't forget, there are hundreds more at our directory, www.productionsparadise.com.

Our SHOWCASE NEW YORK cover picture was shot by Xevi Muntane, represented by De Facto, for VIBE Magazine.

Little Siberia   New York animation production

Little Siberia created the film title and closing credits for "Rene and I",
an independent film that premiered at Lincoln Center's Walter Reade Theater this January.

The graphic treatment was a simple tri-tone of Red, White and Black using vector barbed wire shapes along with smooth transitions. Gina M. Angelone directed the film and it is now on the festival circuit. This 73 minute documentary introduces fraternal twins Rene and Irene, who survived experimentation by Nazi doctors at Auschwitz. Separated after liberation, then reunited years later in the U.S., Rene & Irene speak about their experiences and their hopes for the future.

Little Siberia is a broadcast design company specializing in on-air promotions, ID's, campaigns and commercial treatments.

Mission Photo Production is a full service photo production company based in New York. They are multilingual, which makes things a lot easier when working with international clients locally and around the world.

Nick Ruechel   New York advertising photographers

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre recently commissioned New York based photographer Nick Ruechel to take portraits of their entire company of dancers.

Ruechel was faced with three challenges: the first was to capture the unique spirit of the Ailey philosophy within each individual, the second, to make this translation within the limitations of a tightly cropped portrait and the third, to photograph all 35 artists in 8 hours. Each sitting took between 3-5 minutes with a limit of 3 rolls of film per person. "My camera was getting a bit heavier towards the end of the day, but it was all worth it." Ruechel told us, " Mr. Ailey's work has had a profound impact on my life as an artist so it was really a dream come true."

Project M   New York web design

If it's worth doing...do it HardKore!

Hand crafted sterling silver jewelry with substance! The client asked for a cool, yet elegant and upscale looking web site, that reflects the style of their jewelry and fit into their budget. The pieces combine ancient heraldic and royal symbols with a modern style.

'project m' created a web site with a simple but bold layout. The jewelry was photographed on a dark gray background to bring out the highlights and shadows of the silver, thereby enhancing the punk/rock/biker style attitude. The design of this web site successfully manifests the attitude the wearer should show.

  • Spider's Web   New York web design

Italian chef Pino Ficara required a site to allow clients to learn about
his personal cooking classes and build their menu online.

Spider's Web created a simple, elegant solution. The site design mimics the appearance of serving plates, navigation links surround the circular shapes. The logo was an especially important icon. It captures the personality of Pino in caricature form. This humorous element is utilized extensively in related print pieces and online promotions.

Cohn also shot a wrap-around with Donald Trump and Carolyn Kepcher for the premiere of Unilever's Dove Cool Moisture spot, which aired during the fourth episode of the show on February 10.
