FOOD & DRINK PHOTOGRAPHY Jan 2012

Prague: Jan Prerovsky Editorial & Food Photography

Jan was born in 1978 in the Czech Republic and soon after his family emigrated to Munich. While studying politics at the Ludwig-Maximillian-University, Jan started working as an assistant for several photographers and devoted himself more and more to the craft of photography.

In the year 2000 Jan decided to fully concentrate on photography. He started working at Schneider-Press, in the field of boulevard photography, while he was also getting commissions for several newspapers and agencies. In addition to the portrait and reportage work he also ran a photo studio together with a colleague photographer and worked on different projects including an experimental movie, "Road to Fokstugu" which was screened in various movie theatres throughout Germany.

In 2004 Jan decided to move to Prague and concentrate on his own projects. He worked for the weekly paper The Prague Post where he covered everything from reportage to food and restaurant photography. That was when he discovered his passion for food photography. In 2008 one of his cover pages won an Award of Excellence in the European Newspaper Awards. From that year on he specialised in the field of food photography, and he is now working for FOOD Magazine and the Agency Stockfood.com, amongst others. In 2009 he published his first cook book for Nescafe.

His work is published in newspapers and magazines all over Europe and overseas.
