London [UK]: Adrian Burke  

Adrian Burke is a London-based photographer specialising in still life and animals.

Bill Kingston has been working as a London-based still life photographer for ten years. Initially getting his break shooting for Elle Decoration, he soon came to the attention of other quality publications such as The Times, Telegraph and Harvey Nichols magazines.

Equally at home in the studio or on location, recent commissions for Bill have included a trip to Sweden, shooting for Ikea. His continuing relationship with R.K.C.R./Y&R saw him shoot the latest ads for Marks and Spencer.

Many of the images in this Spotlight can be seen in Bill's new portfolio which he has been working on in the studio over the past year.

London [UK]: Bruce Anderson  

London-based Bruce Anderson specialises in still life photography. At his studio close to Hoxton Square he produces outstanding results in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Bruce is passionate about all aspects of still life photography, and enjoys new challenges. He has even been known to incorporate people into his work.

After three years of being incredibly busy, he finally launched his new website.

London [UK]: Carl Warner  

Over the last few months Carl's 'Foodscapes' have enjoyed international media attention.

His work has been published in newspaper articles and magazines all over the world, and his photographs have been seen on global television reports and interviews.

His recent work for frozen food giant Findus will see Carl's imagery transferred to the world of the moving image, as he begins to develop his career as a director alongside photography.

London [UK]: David Parfitt  

With more than 20 years experience in still life photography, David Parfitt has built a reputation not just for his elegant use of lighting and composition, but also for his patience and obsessive attention to detail.

From the biggest of adverting projects though to editorial shoots and the simplest cut-out product shots, he is adamant that these same principles must apply.

This philosophy is endorsed by the many clients that return to him year in, year out.

He has recently been working in his Central London studio for The Body Shop International, Max Factor and Boots. He is a regular contributor to Red Magazine and to international editions of Marie Claire.

Stuttgart [Germany]: Heiko Hellwig  

Heiko Hellwig has been a freelance photographer with his own studio around Stuttgart since 1988.

He loves to turn any object (or subject) into art by simply using his eyes, imagination and the perfect light. There is no need for an artificial world - the real world is naturally perfect and simply poetic, wether it is a sky, a fruit, a person or a technical object. Light is the most wonderful medium - or is it the one and only subject?

Heiko is working for clients all over Europe, and right now on the 30 sites for the new "Casa Giardino" image Brochure. Most of this will be produced on Location in Italy.

London [UK]: Jobe Lawrenson  

Jobe Lawrenson is a London-based photographer who specialises in still life and people.

Amsterdam [Netherlands]: Marcel Christ  

Still life photographer Marcel Christ shot recent campaigns for Absolut Vodka, Canon, Grolsch and Nike, to name but a few. His work can also be seen around the world in leading publications, from Details Magazine to W.

Marcel is loved for his mastery of still life which lends an unmistakable life-force to ordinary objects, transforming them into sleek art forms. Both editorial and commercial clients are inspired by his way of working, and use not only his photographic techniques (like high speed photography), but also his creative mind before and during the development of a series or campaign.

Hamburg [Germany]: Nordstern Studio  

Photographers Tim Schober, Philipp Schneider and Markus Dominitzki have been working successfully in the medium of still life for many years. In February 2008 they opened their high-performance Nordstern Studio to handle still life and product photography for major clients.

Comparing Nordstern to the composition of a band, the three photographers work together for major clients as well as separately on their own solo projects, all from the new Hamburg-based digital studio.

"The Nordstern is a triple star system; in that way it reflects the constellation of the three photographers. Three stars become one to form the brightest star in the northern sky."

London [UK]: Owen Smith  

Owen Smith is an established advertising photographer who works out of his own studio in west London.

Owen started his photographic career as a still life and food and drinks photographer, working with clients such as Waitrose, Tesco, British Airways, Dunhill and Mont Blanc.

He also works on location, shooting landscapes and people. He recently travelled to Malaysia to photograph beaches for Pfizer, and to Los Angeles to shoot highways for Agfa.

London [UK]: Richard Pullar  

Photographer Richard Pullar has been shooting independently for 15 years and operates his own studio out of a former prison in Clerkenwell, Central London. For Richard, still life is one of the most expressive forms of photography, providing the opportunity to craft images on an empty canvas and create from the depths of imagination. "With still life you should never take a boring photograph. You only have yourself to blame."

Despite many jobs and clients, he still finds time to shoot for himself, working on personal projects that have taken him to Paris, Spain, Marrakech, and Budapest. He loves being in the studio, however, and is passionate about using light to bring his ideas to life. Putting things together that wouldn't normally fit, his juxtaposition of competing elements produces highly suggestive, thought-provoking photography.

Richard stresses he isn't solely a still life niche photographer. Portraiture, lifestyle, people, and location all form part of his professional portfolio and eclectic tastes. However, clients are often drawn to him through still life and then discover he has a far deeper breadth and range to his work.

Richard recently began a selection of video projects that will soon appear on his website. His clients include Waitrose, HSBC, Guinness, and Cisco, among many others. Agencies include Ogilvy, Grey, DDB, and Lowe.

New York [USA]: Sebastian Gollings  

Starting with his first camera - a Kodak Instamatic - at age seven, Sebastian has enjoyed working with liquids, mirrors, textures and light ever since.

To date, his favourite shoots include a story involving splashing milk for Vogue Australia, and a dripping chocolate image for Doingbird Magazine.

Sebastian is based in New York. His most recent editorial was a six-page "Water" feature story for the newly redesigned Orange Life Magazine.

In this month's GQ Sebastian has a story on the 50th anniversary limited edition "Chuck Taylor" Converse Sneakers.

Other recent campaigns include: Rosemont Wine, Nokia, and cover art for the new album by Carolina Liar, with Atlantic Records. His clients include British Airways, Honda, Philips, John Freida Cosmetics, L'Oreal, Dove, and Timex.

Milan [Italy]: Sonia Marin  

Sonia Marin is a freelance photographer who also works as an external lecturer in the Department of Photography at the European Institute of Design.

She has been working commercially since 1994, focussing especially on still life subjects as a fine art photographer. Sonia has organised travelling exhibitions to Copenhagen, Washington, Boston, Barcelona and Tokyo.

She received special mention as "Best Complete Project" in the Photographic Talent competition hosted by FNAC Milan (2006), and was awarded "Best Artistic Picture of the Year" in the commercial field at the Master Competition in Moscow (2006).

Sonia is able to capture the emotions and sensations of life through simple images of everyday objects and the human body, by "de-contextualising and re-inserting them into a new environment". Creating images for either commercial or personal work, her style and direction is guided by the need to tell stories with single images.

All of her images are rendered through Polaroid.

London [UK]: Ted Humble-Smith  

Ted Humble-Smith is recognised as one of the UK's leading still life photographers. For over 15 years, Ted's fascination with light has enabled him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

In the last six months his clients have included Heineken, Tag, Samsonite, Sony and Pioneer. His most recent shoot for Omega watches afforded Ted the opportunity to play in his west London studio: firstly converting it into a swimming pool, then a yacht race, and finally an Olympic rowing race!

His 'Bubbles' series was recently selected for the 2008 AOP awards. His shoot entitled 'Designer Fragrances' also helped Marie Claire win 'Best Visual Concept' in the 07/08 Jasmine Awards.
