Top Beauty Trends for 2015

As we fast approach the end of January, we start preparing ourselves for the trends of 2015. Last year was all about the big brows à la Cara Delevingne, going lipliner crazy, and consuming juice cleanses daily to ‘detox’.

The big question is; what has beauty got in store for us this year? Is contouring still a necessity? Are brows as big as ever? Will the red lip stay iconic?

Well, look no further since we’ve got all the answers here for you. From rounding up the top beauty trends for SS15, we’ve also included tips on how to achieve your perfect makeup look.

Barely There

This look was seen across many catwalks for SS15, and will likely be at the forefront of beauty this year.  Whether you’ll be embracing the ‘no makeup challenge’ as models did in the Marc Jacobs runway and wore literally no makeup, or channeling the Jason Wu or Chanel look and keeping it to a bare minimum (nude/pink lips and a little bit of blush); skincare will be an important routine to follow this spring.

Fiery Lips

Yes, red lips will stay in style. However, this spring will give you the chance to experiment with an array of colours; from berry lips that were seen at Dolce & Gabbana, to bright orange/reds as seen at Zac Posen, you will know every single red shade that exists by the end of 2015.

Bronzed Out

Want to look like you’ve been on holiday – or on the Balmain and Michael Kors runway? Fake it with some bronzer. Contouring was big last year, but this year will be all about creating that sunkissed glow. Just don’t overdo it; remember you want to look natural, not a you-have-a-bronzed-face-but-I-know-you-haven’t-been-on-holiday  look.

Pop of Colour

As seen at Maxmara and Fendi SS15; it’s time to make your eyes pop… with colour. Perhaps this is a trend for the bold, but coordinate with what you’re wearing and people will be complimenting you left, right and center on your makeup.

The Feline Look

When will the cat eye makeup ever go out of style? Never, probably. Even so, this season will have a big emphasis on the flick of the eyeliner. Whether you decide to draw a bold or thin line, don’t forget to flick. Team with some statement jewellery just like Karlie Kloss did at Oscar de la Renta.

Smoky Eye

The ‘I woke up like this’ smoky eye is back this season. By that, I mean the ‘purposefully looking like I slept with my eye makeup on but I just spent an hour doing this’ smoky eye. Have a look at the Chanel and Tom Ford SS15 catwalks for inspiration, they’ve got the makeup look perfected to a T.

Purple Eye

This is definitely a trend to look out for this year. You may think that purple is a hard colour to pull off, but do it like they did at Derek Lam or Vera Wang and people will be double taking at your beauty. A soft purple (lavendar) will be perfect for the evenings in summer when black/grey feels too heavy for you. Whether you want a soft or dramatic look, remember to blend, blend, blend – you don’t want to look like you’ve been punched in the face.

Whether you’re a makeup artist or just like to play around with makeup, this is the year to experiment with colours and palettes. If you are a beauty photographer, watch out for these trends; you could be creating the perfect shots of 2015!
