The ideal Design Director candidate is an independent and innovative thinker, has excellent visual design skills, and has a deep understanding of interaction design and knowledge of technical possibility.


• Participate, oversee, and lead visual design efforts on projects

• Empower, inspire, and support the design team to think innovatively

• Participate and collaborate with project teams on research and strategic development

• Work collaboratively with peers, clients, vendors, contractors and other team members; lead and participate in working sessions and critiques

• Create multiple visual design concepts within a set period of time

• Work with the Creative Director and design team to create concepts and ideas that are astute and elegant, which serve human understanding and meet human needs

• Work with the front-end technology team to create technology-enabled design solutions and prototypes

• Support the development of a creative environment that inspires innovation

• Understand technical requirements and work with the user experience team and developers to translate schematics into fully designed pages

• Create and deliver strong visual design solutions that are based on knowledge of development options. This includes accounting for the behaviors of all design elements (rollover states, animation, etc.)

• Serve as a spokesperson for Hot Studio, through networking, speaking at conferences within and outside the design community

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor’s in Industrial Design, Graphic Design or related, plus five years experience in interactive design

• Experience must reflect portfolio of successful interactive design projects completed for large enterprise or other brand-sensitive clients

• Experience and expertise must include: visual design, interactive and GUI design and knowledge of related technologies (XHTML, CSS, JavaScript) and design considerations (audience types, branding, business and technical requirements)

• Strong understanding of user-centered design, motion graphics, brand identity, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Flash

• Experience presenting design proposals and in the complete design cycle
