Looking For Assistant/Associate Professor Department of Photography

The Department of Photography in the Division of Fine Arts, Rhode Island School of Design invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to commence fall 2014.

As a key member of the faculty s/he will be expected to teach studio and seminar courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. The successful applicant must demonstrate significant professional and exhibition experience and have a track record as an effective studio teacher and critic. Candidates should have an MFA in Photography or its equivalent and must have at least 3 years cumulative teaching experience at the graduate/undergraduate level, beyond a teaching assistantship. Ideal candidates will have some administrative experience and must be willing to serve in rotating administrative management positions within the department. Preference will be given to candidates with a photographic background and practice that expands the medium’s boundaries. Rank will depend on teaching/professional experience.

The department offers programs leading to BFA and MFA degrees in Photography. The department views the photographic medium as having a rich and vital tradition as well as being an important force in contemporary art making. Our faculty and curriculum have been chosen to provide students with a rich studio and academic foundation as well as many areas of specialization.

The full­time faculty teaching load is six courses a year, composed of a combination of sophomore through graduate-level courses. Department Heads are released from teaching two teaching units, or course equivalents, per year. In addition to teaching, full­time faculty are expected to maintain a professional practice; serve on college committees; advise students; participate in curriculum development and other departmental activities and projects; and contribute to an exceptional student experience and to the vibrancy of the intellectual life of the college.
