This was produced for Bar Congress / Congress Restaurant in Austin, and was part of a series for their marketing materials. , Working with drinks can be a great challenge. I usually choose to find back light for them, as in this shot.

This jar of smoking salmon was taken at Red Mountain Bistro in El Paso, TX for Texas Monthly. It can be a challenge to find good lighting on location. , Here, I used directed window light, which I reflected for back light, and pushed the jar against a dark surface on a bar stool in order to separate the smoke from the background.

Fire is always a dynamic element in photos. This image of a pig roast was taken for Chef Tim Byres' book, SMOKE: New Firewood Cooking by Rizzoli, out , April 30. Like Afield, this was a long-term project with several shoot locations in TX. This barbecue took place downtown as part of the Austin Food & Wine Festival.
