Gerard O'Connor Melbourne photographers

A self proclaimed maverick, Gerard O'Connor dabbled as a go-go dancer, night club owner and fashion designer before developing an international career as a photographer. His work has been exhibited in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore where his edgy satirical approach has occasionally ignited controversy, but also won him an array of awards.

In the mid-90’s Gerard began working with Marc Wasiak (Stylist) and later Harry Rekas (Post Production), together creating large-scale narrative tableaux involving many performers and technicians, costuming, make-up and lighting. The images are immediately engaging, detailed and humorous, but beneath the comedy there’s a darker intimation of social, cultural and moral chaos. The images enclosed in this Showcase are some of those that led Gerard to earn Canon AIPP Australian Photographer of the year 2011.

More examples of Gerard’s Commercial and Exhibition work can be found on his website.
