east, the new design restaurant and hotel in the centre of Hamburg, opened in October 2004 at Simon-von-Utrecht-Straße 31.

Bringing to life what he calls "a surreal mixture of East and West, old and new", Chicago-based star architect Jordan Mozer presents his signature narrative architecture and organic design to Hamburg's swankiest address.

East features 125 rooms, lofts and suites in one of the booming northern German city's most daring structures. In a former iron foundry the hotel blends gastronomy, hospitality and nightlife around a three-storey high restaurant.
Four pillars tower within the former factory hall, while dramatically lit parts of the original foundation divide the by candlelight illuminated restaurant area. As its name suggests, The Pure is a pristine, minimalist vision in white, with interiors by Oana Rosen.

The lobby is a study of white linear planes - lucid, Italian Thassos marble counters, large lacquered surfaces, mirrors and sheer curtains. The system allows for the variable addition of a warming orange light, recessed behind a wall-long banquette for example, to suit the time of day or to create a mood.
