National Portrait Gallery London photo events

Gay Icons, until 18th October.

Gay Icons explores gay social and cultural history through the unique personal insights of ten high profile gay figures, who have selected their historical and modern icons.

The chosen icons, who may or may not be gay themselves, have all been important to each selector, having influenced their gay sensibilities or contributed to making them who they are today. They include artists Francis Bacon and David Hockney; writers Daphne du Maurier and Quentin Crisp; composers Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Benjamin Britten; musicians K.D. Lang, the Village People and Will Young; entertainers Ellen DeGeneres, Lily Savage and Kenneth Williams; sports stars Martina Navratilova and Ian Roberts; and political activists Harvey Milk and Angela Mason.

Their fascinating and inspirational stories are illustrated by over sixty photographic portraits including works by Andy Warhol, Snowdon and Cecil Beaton, together with specially commissioned portraits of the selectors by Mary McCartney. All are set in a striking exhibition design conceived by renowned theatre designer, Robert Jones.

Galvin at Windows London restaurants

Located on the 28th floor of The London Hilton on Park Lane, Galvin at Windows Restaurant launched in May 2006 with celebrated Chef Patron, Chris Galvin at the helm. Chris has created a modern French inspired menu and is joined in the kitchen by Head Chef André Garrett. This iconic restaurant with peerless views across Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace and London beyond, now has a glamorous interior evoking the golden age of the 1930's.

In 2006, the restaurant was awarded a Rémy Martin London Restaurant Award. In January 2007 General Manager Fred Sirieix and his team were awarded the "Best Front of House" Award at the prestigious Tatler Restaurant Awards. In addition, Galvin at Windows was nominated in "The 'It' Room" category in the same awards. Finally, the restaurant was highlighted in the Michelin Guide 2008 as a rising star suggesting it will be awarded a Michelin star in 2009. The Hempel London hotels

On a major London square, a terrace of five Regency villas was transformed into this now famous boutique hotel by award-winning hotel designer Jestico + Whiles, working in close cooperation with Anouska Hempel.

The Hempel is designed in minimalist style, with cool, white and elegant spaces and an extraordinary range of specialist finishes. Many rare materials from around the world were sourced to meet the exacting requirements of the operator.

The hotel offers 40 individual and unique rooms, as well as restaurant and conference facilities.
