Born in Liverpool England in 1963, Carl now lives in Kent and works from his London-based studio near to London Bridge’s colourful food emporium of Borough Market.

Having worked as a photographer in the advertising business for 25 years, Carl stumbled on the idea of making landscapes out of food just over ten years ago and these ‘Foodscapes’ have now brought him worldwide acclaim for his very own unique and individual art form.

This has led not only to many commissions for international clients such as Nestle, Unilever and General Mills, but also to a publishing deal with Abrams books which saw the launch of his first book ‘Carl Warner’s Food Landscapes’ in November 2010.

Ellen Silverman New York

Ellen Silverman has a passion for food photography and pursues shoots in a variety of enviornments, with or without people, and both in the United States and around the world. 

With an elegant and organised eye, Ellen works in a collaborative manner with a high degree of professionalism and patience.

Currently, Ellen is working on a cookbook project that tells the story of Cuban food through interviews and recipes both recovered and reinterpreted with home cooks in Cuba, Miami and NY. "The Cuban Table" will be published in the Fall 2014 by St. Martins Press.

Along with her many cookbooks, a sampling of Ellen's clients include: Chobani, Campbells, Lean Cuisine, Fancy Feast, LaCucina Italia, Sweet Paul and Villeroy & Boch.

Ellen is currently working on a Master's degree in video at The School of Visual Arts.

Francesco & Nataly Majo Paris

Francesco and Nataly Majo are internationally acclaimed food and lifestyle photographers. They are married and work together as a team, having met in Italy where they both studied at the European Institute of Design in Milan.

Francesco studied photography and also later received a degree in travel journalism in London. Nataly moved from Colombia to Italy to study art direction and graphic design.

James and James Productions Los Angeles

James and James Productions is a full service still and motion photography studio located in Los Angeles, California. Bruce and Jennifer James, a husband and wife team, are both photographers specialising in shooting imagery for high-end food and beverage clientele.

With Bruce's exclusive training in New York and San Francisco where he worked beside many well-known photographers, combined with Jennifer's in-depth training at Brooks Institute of Photography where she received a BA in Advertising/Illustration Photography, the couple has worked in the photographic industry for over 25 years.

Janyon discovered his affinity for food photography through shooting for food magazines in the mid 1990's. From that he developed an appreciation for the beautiful interaction between light and food detail, and the natural human response to quality food imagery.

His love of directional, purposeful lighting and the nuances in between help to set his style apart from the profusion of flatly lit aesthetic that floods the food photography genre.

Janyon's vast experience in QSR and food packaging photography comes through a decade of shooting for the world's biggest food brands. His long term clients include Sara Lee, Hungry Jacks Australia and KFC South Africa, to name a few.

Jean Cazals London

Jean Cazals has over 20 years' international experience and is well respected across food and travel photography. His styling and approach have gained him many awards and he is equally at home in his fully equipped Notting Hill daylight studio with a large choice of props and backgrounds on-hand or on location.

His work is easily recognisable through his fine mix of creative styles and food presentation. Always searching and creating, Jean always looks to bring character and a strong identity into his photography to elevate the final result for his clients.

He just received with ’Four’ the Best Magazine in the UK at the World Gourmand food Awards with his photography.

Ending up the year 2013 with ‘The SohoHouse’ book, Jean just got back from Paris shooting for a Dubai client and he will start shooting for the Roka/Zuma group in London before starting on his first book of the year, ‘Sketch’ followed by others which will take him to Japan, America, and Marrakech.

Food is beautiful and something that everyone can relate to. Food also involves a process - gathering or creating, and often some transformation - food subjects have an inherent structure for storytelling.

Jody Horton has focused on food for the past four years.

"It allows me to spend time with people who are passionate about what they do. This is my favorite part of the work. My hope and goal in any photo - be it one recorded in a documentary style, or one that is highly crafted and produced - is for it to feel natural and genuine."

Joe Pellegrini Chicago

Joe Pellegrini has been wow'ing Chicago with his food and product photography for over 20 years. From Subway to Coca-Cola and Kellogg’s, he has never met a client he doesn't like. Whether it's a cookbook, a challenging pour shot, or just something fun, Joe loves working in the studio where on any given day you could find anything from a kitchen set to a bottle of whiskey. Also an accomplished painter, Joe brings his artistic sensibilities to all parts of his life.

Kai Schwabe Bremen - Hamburg

Kai Schwabe is a seasoned food photographer working for various agencies in the food industry. It's important for him to be faced with new challenges and different perceptions.

The stock photo agency Westend61 now offers completely new smartphone photos for the web and small print applications produced by Kai. He edited them with Hipster, Instagram, and other analogue-based picture editing software.

The big digital backs in his 500 sq m light-filled studio in the center of Bremen don't go unused. Photographing "egg yolk" was a lot of fun and food stylist Clarence Brown IV provided support.

”I can also make perfect fried eggs," said Clarence.

"But I would like to see true ones," responded Kai.

Karen finished 2013 shooting beautiful store posters for Waitrose. A selection of these images are featured here in this months Spotlight.

Karen is a London-based food and still life photographer. She is known for the welcoming atmosphere of her big and beautiful loft studio in Hoxton, where she shoots both daylight and flash for a wide range of high-end clients. Since the early 90s, Michael Meisen has been devoted to food photography. Working out of his own studio, he enjoys creating pictures and now also videos for leading advertising agencies such as Leo Burnett, Ogilvy & Mather, Publicis and international companies in the field of food and beverages, such as Lufthansa Sky Chefs, Nestlé, etc. Michael is also the preferred photographer of the renowned German cookbook publisher Christian Verlag.

Both his professional work along with his own personal projects showcase Michael’s joy and skill in creative and experimental photography, while his explicit attention to detail and enthusiasm for the perfect light gives him a true photographer’s eye.

Michael shoots in his own studio or on-location with close cooperation from a well-rehearsed team of stylists and food-stylists. He is also member of Germany’s professional organisation for photographers and DOPs, BFF.

NORDSTERN Hamburg

Photographers Tim Schober, Philipp Schneider and Markus Dominitzki have been working successfully in the medium of still life for many years. In February 2008 they opened their high-performance NORDSTERN Studio to handle still life and product photography for major clients.

Comparing NORDSTERN to the composition of a band, the three photographers work together for major clients as well as separately on their own solo projects, all from the new Hamburg-based digital studio.

Rick Souders, owner of Souders Studios, has one of the largest Food Photography Studios in the Rocky Mountains West. Rick is an honours graduate of the Art Center College of Design and is known as the “Mile High Food and Beverage Guy”.

Tony Briscoe had a busy year working with a number of design agencies on the new Tesco Finest Food packaging, including their sandwiches and home baking ranges. He also shot a series of images with Petersham Nurseries Café for The Sunday Times supplement, celebrating British Cherries.

2014 is set to be another busy year as he continues to work with a number of editorial titles such as Jamie Magazine, Delicious, Co-operative Food and Tesco magazines and he is looking forward to new exciting projects with his publishing, advertising and design clients.

Tyllie Barbosa is a Chicago-based food and lifestyle photographer. Whether shooting a product, interior space or ingredients for a recipe, her aim is to make the viewer want to be in that place or taste that food.
