    Nicola Ughi

    Italy

"My name is Nicola Ughi and I like to steal people's soul. Yes, because that’s what people who are portrayed say about my work.

Portrait photography is a part of my job that I love most and gives me the greatest satisfaction.  I shoot corporate portraits for companies, but that's not all. In 2017 I began a project called "Sediarossa" (the red chair) in which I shoot famous people, and they aren't sitting on a red chair.

The red chair is, as I call it, my "non-place"; by sitting on it, those who let themselves be portrayed pause for a moment in front of the lens. It is the "fil-rouge" that unites many well-known and lesser-known faces in front of Nicola Ughi's lens."

While studying for his Master's in photo-reportage at the John Kaverdash Academy in Milan, Nicola Ughi made the decision to become a corporate photographer.

His professor showed him a beautiful portrait - 'The man with the bricks' by August Sander, a German photographer from the 20s - and Nicola fell in love with it, deciding that portraiture must be one of the main skills of his profession.

Today, Nicola shoots many portraits for business purposes as well as individual clients. "I consider it one of the best ways to fix the identity of a person," he says.

Nicola Ughi is a photographer with experience in travel and leisure both for editorial and corporate clients.

Nicola travels alone with its camera to uncover the spirit of a place: hotels and houses but at the same time popular traditional feasts and typical food. He likes to describe animated landscapes instead of loneliness.

He loves to travel, especially in Europe and the Northern hemisphere to tell stories about traditions and contradictions of the civilised world. In 2016 and 2017 he had the possibility of travelling around Italian beaches to create a reportage for Sammontana Icecream, decribing the typical Italian summer way of living.
