As a child in Farmville, western Massachusetts, I vividly recall watching Baywatch, David Lee Roth videos on Venice Beach via MTV, and surfing movies like Point Break -- everything originating from the West Coast! This exposure fueled my desire to leave and explore everything California has to offer.
