At age 15, Thom began his photographic career under renowned National Geographic photographers Dan Dry and Melissa Farlow. Starting at 16, he spent his summers working in the NY studio of Sing-Si Schwartz, documenting costumes for Martha Graham created by upstart fashion designer Halston.
