London: AIR-CGI / Harniman
AIR-CGI / Harniman are UK-based, working globally with premier ad agencies and clients to create innovative images utilising CGI and photography.
Recent projects included work for Volvo cars that involved the Harniman photography and AIR-CGI teams travelling around the world to capture iconic backplates, along with HDRIs and working on location producing CGI pre-visualisations. The photographic and CG team along with the production team, agency and client, shot in Rio De Janeiro, Miami, Barcelona, Chicago and Hong Kong to give a truly global feel to the final images, which incorporated lifestyle shots along with around 20 CGI vehicles.
The team also worked on Mars Ice Cream and Snickers Ice Cream press ads, commissioned by AMV BBDO London. The ice cream 'vans' were modelled and rendered in CGI by the Air-CGI team, who then composited the elements with the location shoot backplates and models shot by Nigel Harniman into typical British summertime scenes for the 2009 range of ads.
AIR-CGI and Nigel Harniman provide CGI stills and animations, modelling, rendering, on location shoot pre-visualisation compositing and retouching.

His work includes pure CGI projects, from a range of glass-effect objects, a Jaguar XF, to an engine and spanner in studio settings for UK press ads, and involve a combination of photography and CGI in varying degrees.
He recently shot Jaguar and Mitsubishi cars on CGI backgrounds, and CGI cars for Ford in photographic location backgrounds in New York for Team Detroit. Nigel also shot for Volvo and Audi, and most recently for Chevrolet in Miami.
The animation shown in this Spotlight is a render from Jaguar of the XK convertible - the background and environment were shot by Nigel in the USA.

NIGEL HARNIMAN
Car & transportation photographers
Nigel Harniman is best known for shooting cars, people and great landscapes worldwide, and has recently been working on major advertising campaigns for various brands including Opel/Vauxhall and Buick Lucerne.
He has also been exploring the world ofautomotive image rendering. This new technology gives the advantage of being able to provide the same high standard of work as traditional location pictures, but without the need to take the shoot vehicle on location. The location environment is still captured photographically, but the vehicle is produced from engineering data.
This makes it perfect for prototypes or secret pre-production models. See the Jaguar image here for impressive results.
