Philip Gatward London

"I’m often asked to photograph people in their daily working environments. Pointing a camera and lens, sometimes inches away from the subject's nose, can be an uncomfortable and unwelcome event for any subject.

Making people comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera can be rewarding in itself. The real thrill for me is working with my subject to coax a natural, confident ‘performance’ from them.

Often this will be in the few minutes I have with them. Using my experience in photographing people, plus a few old tricks! It is great to see people come alive in the viewfinder.

The images here are from recent commissions from Bisqit, Black Sun, FHF London, Gather, GVA and ThinkerDoer."
